Ah, Whats app. It’s the very definition of ubiquitous. Everyone uses it now from your tech hating elders to extremely tech savvy 5-year-olds. Whats App has become a fixture everywhere. And why not it has end to end encryption, no noxious ads and an interface so simple that even a simpleton could figure it out.
But like all popular services Whats App has a bevy of tricks and cheats that make using it a lot more fun. Here are a few of those tricks.

Get rid of those blue ticks
Here’s your first Whats App trick. You can get rid of those irritating blue ticks that let the person on the other end know you have read their message. This puts the onus of replying instantly on you and if you don’t reply quickly, you will come across as rude.
In the Settings menu, go to Account, then Privacy and turn off Read Receipts. The only catch is you’ll no longer get them for other people either.
See who your true friends are
Here’s another neat little Whats App trick
Head to Settings > Data and Storage Usage > Storage Usage and you’ll see a list of your most important groups and contacts ranked according to the data you’ve spent on them. Just don’t blame us if you are unhappy with the results.

Tap on the group chat of your choice, then the name to bring up Group Info where you will find the option to Mute the chat for either eight hours, one week or a year.

A Whats App trick for the man on a mission. This trick will save you plenty of time. On Whats App there are some people you are likely to talk to more than others. To avoid the hassle of opening whats app every time someone sends you a message.
Tap and hold on the chat (group or individual) of your choice and a tab will pop up. Select the Add Conversation Shortcut option and the chat in question will appear as the person’s profile photo on your mobile desktop.
Share your location
A Whats app trick for those who get lost easily. Going to a friend’s wedding? Don’t know where the venue is? Don’t worry we have all been there. Now you can share your location with your friends or share the location of the place you all are heading towards. How about live streaming your location? You can choose how long you want to share your location- 15 minutes, an hour or more.
On iOS, click the + icon to the left of the chat box, and choose Location. This will bring up all of your options for the above, though you will need to approve Whatsapp to know your location at all times if you want to use Live Location (it will prompt you to do this if you haven’t already). On Android, head to the Attach menu and choose Location in the same way – you’ll need to approve the app for similar location permissions here too.
